DVD X Y Z
Mega star in Japan, not very known in Europe ( except from japanese music fans), X japan has released so many music dvd's . Here is the show recorded at the Tokyo Dome ( big stadium) in 1993 , 30 th May ( there is also a dvd for the 31 may). This is a double dvd but expensive ( around 5000 Yen ) so good luck to get it. The menu is only to select songs ( no animation). Before watching that show, just know they are adept of visual keï ( they made music due to Kiss...so it explains many things) and the look is as important as the music.the story of X Japan has highs and lows ( Hide passed away in 98...an accident or a suicide..noone knows). To return to the show, the image is really nice ( even in the blue), the stage is huge ( of course, it's the Tokyo Dome) and the band is lively ( see the drummer) or the singer Toshimitsu Deyama ( look at this haircut). No problem with an audio in dolby or 5.1.So u will understand a big , big show in front of 50 000 fans ( just listen them !).The show in Paris (Zenith) in July will be cool , good concert to u if u go ( i will be in Japan so take videos).
- The second day, they also played the 31 december 1993 and released ( of course) a second double dvd's.Same same for the quality but less for the haircut with one more time the complete and last "Art of life" ( the hit for many japanese fans even it's not the ultimate ballad in my opinion).Big set list: Prologue (~ World Anthem) ,"Blue Blood", "Sadistic Desire", "Standing Sex" ,"Week End", "Heath Solo", "Yoshiki Drum Solo""hide no Heya", Yoshiki Piano Solo", "Art of Life, "Joker", "Orgasm", Tears""X" (Countdown 1993–1994 Version, "Endless Rain", ."Say Anything (S.E.)"....Still big visual effects ( fire, lasers, modernl ights, sound...), the audience is still very hot. Some parts are too long for me ( Yoshiki drum or piano solo for example ).
X Japan 's performance at "Shibuya Kohkaido" on March 16, 1989 is re-release for the first time on dvd in 2001. The line up is : Toshi - vocals, hide - guitar, Pata - guitar,Taiji - bass, Yoshiki - drums. The imahe is correct, not as beautiful as their last releases ( VHS quality), but the show is well done. Many cameras, a meduim stage with many lights, many plans on guitars ( beautiful ones !) and still the look that kills ! Well, the sound is good so it will be a good present for all the curious & fans for christmas. Thanks to ki/oon.
If u are a fans of X japan, u can also get these videos , little bit short with 57 mn but a good view of their shows (many live archives) or of the nice piano's ballad "endless rain" ( similar of the "home sweet home" of the Crue).Be aware, the whole dvd looks very 80's like "weekend " and other with a touch of humor like the band Twisted sister " Celebration", on the songs "silent jealousy", "joker" u will get a stage worthy of the 80's ( like Ratt or Bon Jovi). To end and complete u will the ballad "say anything" where u see the band through Japan and some footage of live shows.
That dvd ( before VHS) contains the band's performance at the Tokyo Dome on January 7, 1992, with Sawada Taiji on bass. The track list is :World Anthem, Silent Jealousy, Sadistic Desire, Desperate Angel, Standing Sex, Week End, Drum Solo, Hide No Heya, Voiceless Screaming, Piano Solo, Es Dur No Piano-sen, Unfinished, Celebration, Orgasm, Kurenai, Joker, X, Endless Rain. So , the concert is full, and a Tokyo Dome full means many people. The stage is huge with big screens and a mega light show. Women are crazy on "Desperate angel"....The quality is not a blue ray but it will satisfied most of the fans by his greatness. Rock for ages !
A show recorded by WOWOW TV in 2009 for their World tour in Asia. The show begins with the soft "endless",a song sang by the audience in unison.Amazing ! The rest is in the same vein.About the look, no more the 80/90 's haircuts , it's more nu metal. Time changes! The stadium is full, two big screens , a high drum kit, a beautiful Kawaï piano, lasers,smoke.....The image in 4:3 is nice but not beautiful in the dark.
One more time X japan recorded a show at the famous Tokyo Dome, 31 december 1997.The image is in 4:3 (oups !) but the quality is good and the show great. Everything is great with a transparent's drum kit in the air in front of the audience for a great effect ( but quiet long on dvd). What impress also on that show ? the screaming of the crowd, all these hands up....Imagine a stadium full , completly full where people never stop "X"....without forget "endless rain " for the emotion sequence. The atmosphere in the courtroom is extremely emotional. The final is a great firework with a big X in red. The show that kills ( like the price, 5000 yens ).
This is an official dvd for what people call a super tribute band. Indeed, u have a killing line up: Mike Portnoy (ex-Dream Theater, Transatlantic, OSI, Liquid Tension Experiment, Liquid Trio Experiment, Avenged Sevenfold, Adrenaline Mob), Neal Morse (Transatlantic, Spock's Beard), Paul Gilbert (Racer X, Mr. Big) and Matt Bissonette (Mustard Seeds, Jughead, David Lee Roth, The Squirts, Joe Satriani, Electric Light Orchestra). No more Matt Bissonette on bass but Kasim Sulton (Utopia and various Todd Rundgren bands). The dvd has a menu & chapters, full screen. The image is just good. Two cameras are used between the drums, one at the rear of theater ansdtwo in the front of the stage ( the BB king is not too big) and it's correct, enough too feel the vibe that night. And u know what, the place was packed. For the set list.....sorry too many songs and most of them i don't know.
